S.F.D. Mission: Open Letter to Melissa Gorzelanczyk, Author of Arrows

Hello lovely readers! Welcome to another mission of Sassy's Fangirl Debuts!

If you remember, Sassy's Fangirl Debuts is a super elite group of agents who have crossed their hearts and sworn to die (not necessarily) to promote and cheer on 2016 debut authors and their books. This amazing team of agents was pulled together by the wonderful Talina, also known as Agent T, of Sassy & Dangerous book blog! Together, we will be doing our very best to be carrying on secret (okay, not THAT secret) missions of spreading the 2016 debut love by writing guest posts, interviews and so much more!

This will be Mission #3.5 for me (yaaaay!) and I am here to share with you my letter to Melissa Gorzelanczyk, author of Arrows!!

Arrows
 by Melissa Gorzelanczyk
January 26th, 2016 by Delacorte Press
YA Fantasy

A modern cupid story set in present-day Wisconsin combining the fantastical elements of Greek mythology with the contemporary drama of MTV's Teen Mom.

People don’t understand love. If they did, they’d get why dance prodigy Karma Clark just can’t say goodbye to her boyfriend, Danny. No matter what he says or does or how he hurts her, she can’t stay angry with him . . . and can’t stop loving him. But there’s a reason why Karma is helpless to break things off: she’s been shot with a love arrow.
Aaryn, son of Cupid, was supposed to shoot both Karma and Danny but found out too late that the other arrow in his pack was useless. And with that, Karma’s life changed forever. One pregnancy confirmed. One ballet scholarship lost. And dream after dream tossed to the wind.

A clueless Karma doesn’t know that her toxic relationship is Aaryn’s fault . . . but he’s going to get a chance to make things right. He’s here to convince Danny to man up and be there for Karma. But what if this god from Mount Olympus finds himself falling in love with a beautiful dancer from Wisconsin who can never love him in return?

This fast-paced debut novel explores the internal & external conflicts of a girl who finds herself inexplicably drawn to a boy who seemingly doesn't reciprocate her  feelings, touching on the issues of love, sex and responsibility, with a heroine struggling to control her destiny--perfect for fans of Katie McGarry's novels and MTV’s 16 and Pregnant.

Open Letter to Melissa Gorzelanczyk

Dear Melissa Gorzelanczyk,

Firsts things first, what a fabulous name you've got there! *high fives* I don't know about you, but back when I was in middle school, I used to google my name all the time just to get the thrill of seeing my name under the Greek names category and then smile at the "Hardworking bee" or "Honey" meaning. It would totally make me feel special. It's silly, I know, but Greek mythology was one of my favorite subjects when studying ancient history (still is), so I naturally fell more in love with it. And now even more because we share the same name hehe. ♥

Now, if we squint our eyes and cover them with our hands, I think Gorzelanczyk and Robles kinda look alike too, don't you think? Haha just kidding, but still... *wink*.

Anyhoo, I'm thrilled and overjoyed to write you this letter because your book, Arrows, is one of the most intriguing and prettiest looking of the 2016 debut books out there. It's true, I swear! I want to see how you weave in the Greek mythology and CUPID. I've never read a book about cupid before so YAS. Well, the son of Cupid but I guess I can still call him Cupid.

I have the feeling that this cupid, known as Aaryn, will be dashing, with a smoldering gaze and sarcasm as his first language. Or maybe sweet beyond words? Either way, I think he'll be downright cool so I really can't wait to meet him.

One thing I'm 95% positive about is that you won't have him wearing only diapers, like the typical weird-looking cupids. But to be honest, that would have been terribly amusing. And very odd (tho I'd totally dig it!). I bet that even Aaryn mentions this at one point in the book! You must tell me if I'm right. :D

And Karma sounds like an awesome character as well. Sorry to hear she'll have a hard time dealing with everything that Aaryn's arrow causes, but I'm sure she'll pull through wondrously. I believe in her!

Oh, and I want to dress up as your book one of these days too. Specially with that awesome outfit Heidi Heilig pulled together. Imagine walking down the street with that outfit and with your book in my arms? PERFECTION. I'd be my own cupid. ;)

The booknerd strucked by Arrows,
- Melissa ♥
