Day 16 of 25 Days of Book Boyfriends: Tristan from Stolen Songbird (Interview + Giveaway)

Hi everyone! Welcome to my stop (day 16) of the 25 Days of Book Boyfriends hosted by Lovin' Los Libros, Reader's Live A Thousand Lives, and Starbucks & Books Obsession!

Since December 1st, 25 bloggers have been featuring they're favorite book boyfriends and today I get to feature Prince Tristan de Montigny from Danielle L. Jensen's Stolen Songbird.

Stolen Songbird by Danielle L. Jensen
(The Malediction Trilogy #1)
April 1st, 2014 / Angry Robots Books
YA Fantasy

For those who have loved Seraphina and Graceling comes another truly fabulous fantasy...

For five centuries, a witch's curse has bound the trolls to their city beneath the mountain. When Cécile de Troyes is kidnapped and taken beneath the mountain, she realises that the trolls are relying on her to break the curse.

Cécile has only one thing on her mind: escape. But the trolls are clever, fast, and inhumanly strong. She will have to bide her time...

But the more time she spends with the trolls, the more she understands their plight. There is a rebellion brewing. And she just might be the one the trolls were looking for...

*****
I'm  super thrilled to be able to show off Tristan. I love him dearly, and guys, he's such an intriguing character. He's the kind of character that has layers upon layers. He is dark and brooding, snarky and secretive, and seems to be a spoiled Prince, but HE IS NOT. Well, not entirely so. He carries that personality as a blanket to protect himself. But really, he's totally swoon-worthy and I would follow him to the end of the world, or Trollus.

So, how does Tristan look like? According to Cécile de Troyes...

"Prince Tristan was tall and lean, and a fierce intellect gleamed in his silver troll eyes. He couldn't have been much older than I was - that is, if trolls aged the same way humans do.

"He also had the most exquisite face of any boy I'd ever seen. Inky black hair, sculpted cheekbones and jaw, and a full but unsmiling mouth. He looked like Prince Charming from the fairytales, except for one thing: Prince Charming was human, and the boy standing in front of me was decidedly not."

To sum it up: GORGEOUS!

And beneath his great looks and underneath all that bratty coldness, lies a brave and good heart. He's secretly plotting with the half-blooded trolls (the minority) to take down the harsh reign of the full-bloods, including his father.

"Walking to the front of the room, I silently regarded my followers. I would be their champion, lead the revolution to tear down the autocracy that valued only power and bloodlines, even if it meant starting a war against my father. I would risk my own life and those of my friends to accomplish these goals."

And that was his sole purpose, until he met Cécile, a human, who at first seemed only like an invasive and unwelcome person within his mind (because they bond and can feel every emotion they are having) but then slowly started falling, one drip at a time.

"And that voice. The strange acoustics of Trollus had filled the city with her song, luring me to her. And when I'd seen her standing in the dark, so fierce and defiant with hair like flames trailing loose down her back... If I wasn't careful, she would be my undoing."

To end up like this:

"Being around you was the sweetest torture. I wanted to touch you, hold you, kiss you. I wanted all of you." His shoulders slumped. "But I was afraid of what would happen if I gave in to my desire. If I let myself love you."

"I feel like I'm loosing my mind. I live every moment on edge, thinking that I'll turn around and you'll be gone."

"I love you, Cécile. I will love you until the day I take my last breath and that is the truth."

Oh, the feeeeeeeels!

I could spend all day telling you why Tristan is one of the best Book Boyfriends there is, but I'm afraid I would just end up posting the whole book here and that wouldn't be right. You have to meet him, to peel away every layer and reach that guy, that troll, who made me feel what other characters have never made me feel.

He's THAT incredible. <3

Now, prepare yourselves Stolen Songbird fans because this will not be pretty. Danielle mananged to pull some strings and I was granted time to chat with Tristan.  Won't deny it was a bad time, but from the interview you can now get an idea on how much he is suffering. Off  you go!

CHARACTER INTERVIEW WITH TRISTAN

Hi, Tristan! Thank you so much for granting me an interview today. I'm such a huge fan of yours so I'm honored you took some time out of your busy (and complicated) schedule to join in on the 25 Days of Book Boyfriends Tour. I hope you have a great time with us.

Before we start, could you tell me where we are right now? It's so dark in here...

Prison. I’d apologize for the lack of amenities, but given that you will leave after our little chat, while I must continue to languish in this pit of filth and despair, apologies seem unnecessary.

Oh...right. So sorry about that, and yeah, apologies aren't necessary. Let's carry on then.  For those who don't know you, could you tell us a bit about yourself?

I was under the impression that my reputation preceded me. Has that changed?

In Trollus, no. You're unforgettable, as well as with the readers who know you. But never mind that, so tell me: What does it feel like to be the Crown Prince of Trollus?

At the moment, dirty and somewhat malodorous. And to be frank, my claim to that title is somewhat up in the air.

I understand. Could you please talk about your magic and how it works?

You implied this would be a short interview, but then you ask me to explain the inexplicable. How typically human of you.

Did I? Won't force it out of you then. What do you think about the trolls of Trollus, do you really believe they are monsters, including yourself? (We disagree on this of course, we think you're amazing!)

I think you’ve been spending too much time with my lovely wife.

I wish! And she is right, you know. Glad we're on the same page. But sure okay, another question. Since we are celebrating the holidays, I was wondering: Does Trollus celebrate any? Do you give out gifts?

Given what you know of my father, what do you suppose the chances are of him granting the city a day of leisure? Gold, as they say, does not mine itself.

Gifts are…problematic. Accepting something that is not being given as payment puts one in the debt of the giver. At best, it results in a rather tedious and interminable exchange of thank-you notes. At worst, you might be put in the position of giving up something you’d rather not. For a troll, it really is better to give than to receive.

None with the half-bloods, but maybe wih the full-bloods? Balls and all for special ocassions... And just out of curiosity, what do trolls normally eat and what is your favorite food? (And don't say humans because I know it's not true... right?)

I take it back. You haven’t been spending time with Cécile, you’ve been with my father. He’s obviously sent you to torture me with memories of ALL that I’ve lost. Like bacon. And chocolate éclairs.

*Looks away guiltily* You know I would never do that, but I now wish I'd smuggled you something to eat. Now, let's talk a bit about Cécile: What were your thoughts when you first set eyes on her?

That she both smelled and appeared as though she’d spent the last hour soaking in sluag shit, and that I was stuck with her.

True, and to think you would end up falling in love with her! Obviously, she cleaned up well after that. At the end of Stolen Songbird we left you in a dire spot that basically broke our hearts, what were you thinking at that moment?

That I’d done all that was in my power to do for her – and that there’d be a reckoning for it. I was not wrong.

That you did. You risked everything for Cécile and I'm still stunned by it. You know, I think there's a slight chance that Cécile might read this interview, would you like to send her a message?

To what end? What could I possibly say that would be worth the pain of reminding her of what we lost? She can never come back to Trollus, and I can never leave. Better for her to forget as best she can and to move on with her life. That is, if my father will let her…

You're asking for something impossible, Tristan. You, out of everyone, must know that Cécile won't give up on you, ever. Anyway, I think my time it's up so thanks again Tristan for the interview. We hope to see you again soon in Hidden Huntress and we wish you all the luck in the world! Our hearts are eternally yours.

Be careful what you promise to a troll…

Oh, I will.
